Privacy policy
Last updated 13 October 2026
Tailor has no accounts and runs no advertising. We don't know who you are. The www.tailor.ai website uses Google Analytics to count visits, and we keep a record of the searches the assistant runs and the products people click through to, so that we can make the search better.
Tailor (tailor.ai) is operated by Light Bulb Research (Pty) Ltd, a company registered in South Africa ("we", "us"). This policy covers the Tailor connector at mcp.tailor.ai that you add to Claude, ChatGPT or another AI assistant, the website at www.tailor.ai, and its API.
How Tailor works
When you ask your assistant for clothes, it decides what to search for and sends Tailor a search request: the words it chose (for example "white linen shirt"), plus filters such as country, department, store and price. Tailor returns matching products from its index of public retailer listings. Tailor never sees your conversation, your name, your account with the assistant, your memory or your files. Only the search requests the assistant sends reach us. Your conversation is governed by your assistant provider's own privacy policy (for example Anthropic's or OpenAI's).
What we collect
Search requests
For each search that returns products, we record what the assistant sent and what we returned:
- the search text, filters and any change asked for (such as "in black")
- the product the search started from, if any
- the products we returned, in order
- the time, and a random search id
We don't record your IP address or any identifier of you or your assistant account with these searches. The search text is written by the assistant, but it can include things you said. Please don't put personal details such as your name, address or health information into a shopping request.
Clicks to retailers
Product links go through www.tailor.ai/go/…, which sends you on to the retailer's page. When you follow one, we record:
- the product, store, price and the time
- the search id and position of the product in those results, so we can tell which searches work
- your browser's user-agent string and the referring page
- a hashed form of your IP address. The hash uses a key that changes every day, so we can count repeat clicks on one day but can't recognise you across days or recover your IP address. We never store the IP address itself.
Photos you upload
If you or an assistant upload a photo to find look-alike products, we store a downscaled copy (location and other metadata are removed) and its embedding under a random id. Anyone who has that id's link can view the photo. Please only upload photos you have the right to share, and not photos of other people without their consent.
Server and security logs
Our hosting provider keeps technical logs of requests, such as errors and blocked traffic, which can include IP addresses. We use them only to run, debug and protect the service.
Website analytics
The www.tailor.ai website uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people use. It sets cookies in your browser and sends Google information such as the pages you view, your browser and device type, the referring site and your approximate location. Google Analytics doesn't store your IP address. The Tailor connector inside Claude or ChatGPT doesn't use Google Analytics. You can block it with your browser's privacy settings, a content blocker orGoogle's opt-out add-on.
Your country
The tailor.ai homepage uses the country your connection comes from (as reported by our content-delivery network) to show an example in your currency. We don't store it.
Why we use it
- to answer searches and send you to the product you chose
- to understand which searches and stores are useful, and to improve search quality
- to count clicks we send to each retailer
- to count visits to the website
- to keep the service secure and to stop abuse
We do this on the basis of our legitimate interest in running and improving Tailor. We don't sell data, we don't build profiles of people, and we don't use what we collect for advertising.
Who we share it with
We share data only with the service providers that run Tailor for us:
- Amazon Web Services hosts the service and stores the logs and uploaded photos, in the United States.
- Google (Gemini API) turns search text and uploaded photos into embeddings so we can match them to products. We use the paid API, under terms that don't allow Google to use the content to improve its products.
- Google Fonts supplies the typeface on www.tailor.ai, so your browser contacts Google when it loads the page.
- Google Analytics measures visits to www.tailor.ai, as described above.
Retailers don't receive anything from us. When you click through, you are on the retailer's own site and its privacy policy applies. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- search requests and clicks: up to 2 years, then deleted automatically
- uploaded photos: 90 days, then deleted automatically
- website analytics: kept by Google for up to 14 months
- server and security logs: only as long as we need them to run and protect the service
Where it is stored
Tailor's data is stored in the United States. Where South African law (POPIA) or UK or EU data-protection law applies, we rely on our providers' contractual and security safeguards for this transfer.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access is limited to the people who operate Tailor, and the parts of the service that answer searches can't read the logs back.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and UK and EU data-protection law, you can ask us what we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it or to stop using it. Because we don't know who our users are, we usually can't link a search or a click to you. If you send us a search id, the exact time or the photo link, we'll find and delete it. Write to us at the address below.
If you're not happy with our answer, you can complain to South Africa's Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za) or to the data-protection authority where you live.
Children
Tailor is meant for adults. It can search children's clothes, but it isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes
If we change how Tailor handles data, we'll update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
